Walking Football on ABC Breakfast

Walking Football 4 Health Victoria was recently featured on ABC Weekend Breakfast, shining a spotlight on the power of sport to bring joy, movement, and connection to people of all ages and abilities.

The segment introduced viewers to Elizabeth Dosser, an inspiring 89-year-old who discovered walking football with her daughter and now plays regularly in women’s sessions. For Elizabeth, the game is more than exercise — it’s laughter, energy, and friendship: “You don’t realize you’re doing exercise because you’re walking — and it’s fantastic.”

Alongside Elizabeth was Mick Trim, President of WF4H Victoria, who shared his personal story of resilience. After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2017, Mick was forced to give up work, driving, and traditional sport. Discovering walking football became a turning point: “To me, it’s definitely a lifesaver… now we’ve built a community where people can come together, get active, and have fun.”

Both Elizabeth and Mick highlighted the inclusive spirit of walking football. Players as young as five and as experienced as 89 have joined in, proving it truly is a sport for everybody — regardless of age, ability, or background.

The interview also celebrated the upcoming Festival of Walking Football, hosted by WF4H Victoria, bringing together more than 200 participants from across Australia for a weekend of friendly competition and social connection.

Walking football is proof that staying active, engaged, and connected is possible at any stage of life — and that community is built one step, and one smile, at a time.
